Cloak and Dagger Season 2 ends on a quiet, yet incredibly powerful note: with Tandy and Tyrone holding hands, on a bus, heading out of New Orleans to use their superhero powers to help people elsewhere for a while. Where is that bus heading? “Yes, there is a specific place. I can tell you nothing else,” showrunner and episode writer Joe Pokaski told Den of Geek during a phone interview prior to the finale’s airing. While Pokaski wouldn’t tell us where Tandy and Tyrone are heading, he did get more specific with the narrative reasoning behind Tandy and Tyrone leaving New Orleans. “I think it’s part of coming of age,” said Pokaski. “I don’t know when you first left home, but I feel like, when you leave, the only place you’ve known for the first time, it forces you to really define who you are out of context. After these two seasons, I like the idea—even if it’s for an episode or two—to get them out of the city… to have them understand who they are in a different context.” It sounds like Pokaski fully intends for Tyrone and Tandy to come back, saying: “I think, when they come back to the city, it will allow them to kind of recalibrate, kind of try to figure out which one of those people is really them.” And what of that intimate, sweet moment of handholding—waffles-style? Where did Pokaski intend for that to fall on the spectrum of platonic, romantic, or something in-between? “Honestly, we wanted to leave a bit of a Rorschach test for our audience,” said Pokaski. “We didn’t want to definitely put our stamp on it because we wanted people to apply their own romantic values on it.” “I have some strong feelings about whether Tandy and Tyrone should end up together that I’ve been hiding for two seasons,” the showrunner said. “I’ve been trying to be patient because I think part of the reason I want Tandy and Tyrone together is because I didn’t see it often in the first iterations of the comic book. I think it, at the very least, [this is] putting our foot in the door and starting to open it.” While Pokaski is in beginning to explore the romantic potential between Tandy and Tyrone, he is very open to different interpretations of that ending scene. “I’m very excited to see what people think of that,” continued Pokaski, “because I feel like that you defined the spectrum perfectly between: Is it entirely platonic? Is it 100 percent romantic? What points of your life are either of those things? So, we like to keep it a little muddy in the middle.” We’ve yet to get an official renewal for Cloak and Dagger Season 3, but if another season of Tandy and Tyrone’s adventures should happen (please let it happen), Pokaski already has the first scene of Season 3… it was originally the final scene of Season 2. “I don’t know if I’m spoiling anything, there was actually a scene that was going to be a bit of a tag,” revealed Pokaski. “But, for time, and when we saw the impact of that last scene, we didn’t want to put something else on top of it. So, what we thought is, what was shot as what would be the end of season two is going to be the first scene is season three, if we’re hopeful. And, there’s a lot more story to tell.”
