Moon Knight is only the first of many new Phase 4 releases planned for 2022. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters in May, Ms. Marvel will debut on Disney+ in June, Thor: Love and Thunder is heading for a July opening, and we should also see the likes of She-Hulk and What If…? Season 2 emerge later in the year. Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which has experienced production issues, may yet be pushed back to 2023. In the meantime, here are the details you’ll need to watch and stream all six episodes of Moon Knight…
Where You Can Watch Moon Knight
Moon Knight, like all the other MCU series and now Netflix Marvel offerings, will be available to stream on Disney+, where episodes will become available weekly. It joins 2021’s incredibly successful MCU shows WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If…?, and Hawkeye on the streaming service, but Moon Knight is the first series to introduce a new lead character who has never been seen before in the MCU.
Moon Knight Story
Here’s an official synopsis of the series, courtesy of Marvel: “Moon Knight follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.”
Moon Knight Cast
Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac (Star Wars) as Marc Spector, a Jewish mercenary who has Dissociative Identity Disorder. When the show begins, Marc has at least one alternate identity in Steven Grant, a mild-mannered ‘British’ gift shop employee who is seemingly unaware that he is an alternate. Both versions have a psychic link to an ancient Egyptian moon god called Khonshu (voiced by F. Murray Abraham), who has allowed Marc to become his avatar on earth: a brutal, white-suited figure of vengeance known as the Moon Knight.
Ethan Hawke (Sinister) stars alongside Isaac as Arthur Harrow, a religious zealot and dangerous cult leader that the iconic actor based on the notorious Waco siege ‘prophet’ David Koresh, while May Calamawy (Ramy) co-stars as Layla El-Faouly, a mysterious woman from Spector’s past. The late Gaspard Ulliel (Twice Upon a Time) plays the villainous Anton Mogart aka Midnight Man, a recurring villain from Marvel Comics.
Moon Knight was created for Marvel by Jeremy Slater (The Umbrella Academy). The show has been directed by a three-man team consisting of Mohamed Diab (Cairo 678), Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead (The Endless).
“For me, my favorite Marvel film is still the first Iron Man,” Isaac told IGN. “You know, it’s the one that feels like it’s breaking through in some way, and it has such an indelible performance, [where] Downey comes in and just owns every minute that he’s on screen. It also feels quite adult, and it’s messy, ‘cause it’s the first one, you know? So I like that a lot. [Moon Knight] was a similar approach, where we’re building this thing from the ground up.”
Moon Knight will still be part of MCU Phase 4, however, and promotional materials for the series have already featured a small Easter egg that connects to Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, confirming that the events of the show are set after Avengers: Endgame in the MCU timeline.
Moon Knight Marvel Comics Origin
The character of Moon Knight was created by Doug Moench and Don Perlin, first appearing in Werewolf by Night #32 in 1975. Since his Marvel Comics debut, he has featured in a string of solo series, and has also popped up in team-up books like Secret Avengers and Marvel Knights. It is rumored that Marvel Studios plans to incorporate Moon Knight into a future MCU Avengers team, but it is not yet clear where and when that will happen.
Moon Knight Episode Release Dates
The series will get underway on Wednesday, March 30. Subsequent episodes of Moon Knight will drop on April 6, April 13, April 20, April 27, and May 4 on Disney+. New episodes usually pop up on the streaming service at 8am BST, 3am EST, and 12am PST.
